Before & After: Vintage Desk

So here is my precious vintage desk in all it's brown glory! $17 at Goodwill ( sorry! Creepy doll not included!). I liked it brown actually except that it was shiny and a little beat up. Then the guy carrying it to my car dropped it off the curb and beat it up even more. I cant believe it didn't crack or break!!
Then after a coat of primer and White Gloss Spray Paint:
I spray painted the hardware citron. It's a little brighter than I was going for so I will work on toning that down soon. LOVE those peg legs...
Then I lined all of the drawers with the left over curtain fabric and some mod podge!

Final Product:
.... and because I have NOT painted enough chairs this week.....
The whole project was about $30. I already had the primer, fabric & mod podge on hand. I purchased 2 cans of spray paint ( white glossy & key lime).
Even though this is technically a desk, I will likely use it as a dressing table because it is the perfect size for one, lots of drawers... etc. My old office is about to become a walk in closet... stay tuned!

Looks great! Sad about that room being a closet though...it's got so much potential with it's windows. It would be a great reading/media room!! :)

So did you need to sand your desk down before priming? My desk has a shiny laminate top and I worry that painting it won't work. Body of the desk looks just like yours did though (minus the creepy doll, so I would love love to do this!
I did not sand it. I never sand anything !:) Its too much work. What I did was prime it with an OIL BASED primer.
For this particular piece I spray painted the white finish with glossy spray paint. Painting furniture with a brush can be awkward but does give better coverage.

I LOVE this. I was thinking of doing the same thing with a piece of furniture. I was wondering if you could give me a few instructions on how to do this. Is it just primer and then a new coat of paint? Thanks so much for your time!!

Beautiful. I have a huge bookcase that I have to paint...I think I'll try using spray paint.
This is incredible. I love it! I also love the before/after hutch on D*S. How did you give that piece the distressed look?
As far as the desk project, what kind of oil based primer did you use? And did you have to use a oil based spray paint? (Do they even make those?!) I recently painted two nightstands with white enamel and I'm thinking I should have gone with spray paint.
